Counting Down Oklahoma’s 2009 Opponents (7-12)

For the 2009 Sooners, getting back to the BCS National Championship is on everyone’s mind.  In order for it to happen, OU will have to run a veritable gauntlet which is their regular season schedule.

The more you break it down, the more you realize that the Sooners have their work cut out for them, as perhaps their five weakest opponents travel to Norman. For nearly every ranked or near-ranked opponent, OU will go on the road.

Make the jump to see Nos. 7-12 of the Sooners’ 2009 schedule.

Tomorrow we’ll go thru Nos. 1-6. Any guesses who will claim the top spot?

Wreck ‘em, Tech

I didn’t go crazy when Michael Crabtree scored the game-winning touchdown over Texas, I went flat-out ballistic.  From all the accounts I heard, so did the whole city of Norman.

My brother texted me from the stadium when the Sooners went up 28-0 over Nebraska five and a half minutes into the game.  He asked me if he should leave at halftime to watch the game in Lubbock.  I won’t tell you what my answer was, but let’s just say my conscience would be hurting bad if Crabtree doesn’t come up with that catch.

Earlier this season Oklahoma Offensive Coordinator Kevin Wilson said, “Everyone talks about a playoff…we’re in one.”  Looks like he knows what he’s talking about.  This season in the Big XII South is just like watching playoff football, with almost every week featuring a marquee game.

Though there’s a lot to be determined, the Sooners are in better shape than they were yesterday.  With so much uncertainty, here’ what we know for sure:

We need Tech to handle Oklahoma State next week.  We also need Tech to win its remaining games outside of its game in Norman.  Assuming Texas wins out, this will create a three-way tie in the Big XII South standings.  The highest ranked team in the BCS will represent the Big XII South in the conference championship game.  It’s a very good bet that team would be us if we take care of business against Tech and Oklahoma State.

Assuming Oklahoma wins out, we need Alabama or Penn State to lose.  Preferably both.  This would make the BCS Championship Game a matchup of 1-loss teams.  In this scenario, Oklahoma would be a shoe-in considering the strength of the Big XII.

Assuredly, there are many changes still in store in the final month of the regular season.  But I believe we are in a very good position, all things considered.

For now, enjoy tonight’s two wins.
