With 20 verbal commitments and 8 scholarships left, Oklahoma’s 2010 recruiting class (currently ranked No. 2 by Scout and No. 3 by Rivals) could be Stoops’ strongest yet. But in order to pull it off, he’ll need to finish strong.

Plano West DE Jackson Jeffcoat is the state of Texas' prize recruit for 2010.
1. Jackson Jeffcoat, must get.
*****, 6’5″, 230 lbs. DE, Plano West Senior HS (Texas)
Strengths. At 6’5″ 230, Jeffcoat already has all the tools to be a dominant DE at the next level. Add his athletic pedigree—Jackson’s father, Jim Jeffcoat, was a first-round draft pick and played 15 years in the NFL—and you’ve got one majorly sought-after national target. If you’ve seen his highlights, you know Father has been coaching up Son his entire life. Jeffcoat holds scholarship offers from almost every major program in college football including USC, Oklahoma, Texas and LSU.
Leaders. While Jeffcoat has played his cards very close to the chest, many believe his top three at the moment are the Sooners, Longhorns and Trojans. Two factors that could play in OU’s favor are his family’s close proximity to Norman and that his twin sister, Jacqueline, has verbally committed to play basketball for Sherri Coale.
Prediction. If I had to guess right now, I’d go with USC based on the amount of time Jeffcoat has reportedly spent in LA over the summer. However, I believe that with an official visit in the fall, OU could easily become the team to beat.
2. Darius White, must get.
*****, 6’4″. 205 lbs WR, Fort Worth Dunbar (Texas)
Strengths. White is the top WR prospect to come from the state of Texas since Roy Williams, and he has the offer sheet to prove it. White holds scholarship offers from all the major players, including Florida, USC, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma. White has all the tools to be an elite college receiver, and shows tremendous body control, jumping ability and speed to go with his size.
Leaders. Recently White has said that his top three schools include OU, USC and Oklahoma State, in that order. This despite not even having visited USC. More recently some Longhorn fans believe they have gotten back into the race and are now even with OU at the top of White’s list. This has not been confirmed by White himself. One factor that plays in OU’s favor is that White’s cousin and teammate Rashod Favors, three-star linebacker, is believed to be close to pulling the trigger and committing to Oklahoma. Stealing both White and Jeffcoat, the two top prospects from the Lone Star State, would be a huge statement for Stoops and the Sooners.
Prediction. Norman-bound.
3. Justin McCay, must get.
*****, 6’3″ 200 lbs. ATH, Bishop Miege HS (Kansas)
Stengths. McCay has the potential to play several different positions at the next level, including WR and safety. Many also feel with his frame, McCay could potentially bulk up enough to play linebacker. Although his versatility is a huge bonus, the Sooners need to land McCay in order to start a trend of landing their top WR targets. McCay’s offer sheet is very impressive, with invitations to play at Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame and Oklahoma among others.
Leaders. All signs lead to Oklahoma and Florida being McCay’s two top schools for the moment, with some believing he could make a surprise commitment at any time. Notre Dame, Kansas and Kansas State have also been thrown around as leaders for McCay’s services. One factor that plays in the Sooners’ favor is that McCay’s Father, who passed away in June, took an unofficial visit to Norman with his son and reportedly loved his time there.
Prediction. Norman-bound.
